Enrichment & Life Skills
Enrichment
Regular enrichment opportunities are timetabled in advance and curated together as a team: trips, visitors, workshops and extracurricular activities are just some of the ways that the curriculum will be enhanced. Whether it be football, parkour, arts and crafts, cooking, local area visits, Forest School, these are all different ways that we can enrich learning, add depth and breadth, and bring the fun to their educational journey in a safe environment.
Life Skills
Extracurricular activities will be offered and timetabled each half term where pupils can sign up to their desired clubs. This will enable pupils' autonomy to choose which activities they take part in which will widen their experiences through a range of creative, practical and sport-based activities. In advance, students will be able to vote on clubs that may be offered. Through this democratic process, and the students’ autonomy, clubs will be selected, offered and changed each term. At Key Stage 2 & 3, pupils are taught how to cook and learn about nutrition and healthy eating. This is taught during various elements of Science, Physical Education and PSHCE. Some cookery opportunities may arise during our cross-curricular approach. Cooking at Key Stages 2 & 3 follow the national curriculum aims and content within design and technology. Food dishes and themes are built around cross-curricular subject content as part of an engaging curriculum. Learning how to cook is a vital life skill that enables pupils to feed themselves and others now and in later life.
All aspects of the school day, including when ‘Breaking Bread’ during breakfast and lunch, are opportunities to deliver the curriculum, especially SMSC opportunities and teaching our core values through the CARES360 curriculum. We instil a love of cooking and socialising through our ‘Breaking Bread’ sessions; this prepares them with life skills and opportunities. Although we do not currently offer a formal qualification, NCFE Food & Cookery at Key Stage 4 would be considered alongside supporting individuals to complete their Food Hygiene Level 2 Awards.
